This is my favorite scene of the four Brenda James gives a convincing performance as a woman learning about toys and sex, and I like the way she talks. She has a happy, matter-of-fact joie de vivre that makes me want to see more of her. Things Brenda James is good at: everything, but pillow talk especially.
Family Business manages to add a touch of class, or at least sophistication, to the business of fucking one’s relatives. You don?t see that every day. Part of the effect is achieved by hiring actors who can act at least a little bit, but the movie’s greatest strength is in its pacing each scene is allowed to develop some, without the kind of rushed frenzy that characterizes a lot of vignette movies these days. India Summer has a smoldering bitchiness that appeals, and Brenda James in particular is enjoyable as a newly awoken libertine with no guilt holding her back. Family Business strikes a careful balance between dirty and romantic, and that is a thing to be savored.
